Following reaching the target of delivering 100,000 tests per day by the end of April we need to continue to increase our capacity for testing.

We are looking for new methods for viral detection and identification that are high throughput and that will increase end to end efficiency and speed of testing. These need to be implemented and adopted quickly. They may include solutions to challenges you have faced in your own systems in recent weeks.

Please note we are NOT looking for examples of point of care testing in this challenge.

High throughput Lyophilised COVID-19 RT-qPCR Kit

This CE marked kit is a fully lyophilised RT-qPCR test for high throughput COVID-19 testing. All the reagents required for RT-qPCR are pre-dispensed into 8 well strips or 96 well plates and all the end user needs to do is add viral RNA. This single reaction, single step RT-qPCR multiplex reaction detects the ORF1ab and N gene along side an internal control.  The kit has been stabilised so it can be shipped and stored at ambient temperatures. Key features: All-in-One test: the...

High-throughput, low-cost molecular testing for SARS-CoV-2 using Mass Spec.

Agena Bioscience® has developed a cost-effective assay for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 virus on the MassARRAY® System. The high-throughput MassARRAY System enables laboratories to process approximately 6000-7000 samples per day with a single instrument of compact footprint (0.71m2) - reducing the burden on operator resources, equipment service and maintenance and IT interfacing costs per test. The Sars-Cov-2 assay provides a robust alternative to test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus in...

NHS Mass PCR Screening Pillar - Pilot for screening all 8000 staff at East Kent: 3CR end-point PCR as a mass PCR screening covid

Asymptomatic transmission of SARS CoV-2 is a recognised driver of current SARS CoV-2 prevalence and transmission in the community. A recent meta-analysis from Bern reported the symptomatic phase transmission accounts only for about 30% of onward transmission whilst the major contribution for sustained community transmission comes from pre-symptomatic category accounting for 40-50% and true asymptomatic through the entire initial virus exposure accounting for a further estimated 10% of...

Instant result capturing and upload

We have the rapid test available that have 100% IgG and 96% IgM accuracy capability. These test are produced in South Africa and we have over 500K on the ground in the UK    The Tess are the finger prick version and the result can be uploaded directly to the Medflow database which can have an API into the DHSC or PHE database to hep with testing.  If the result returns a positive IgM result then we can push the panic button and pally for a lab based PCR.  Using this method saves in...

A "Results at Point of Testing" Test for Covid-19 which will Produce 50-100 Results per Test Station per Hour

Using this test will mean up to 1000 people per day can be tested by a single operative in any location and environment. If one test station was located in each of hospital in the UK then over 120,000 people could be tested and instantly diagnosed locally rather than having to travel to distant locations. This would also mean Hospital Staff could be tested every day to check that they are "Covid-19 free" before starting their shift. This would also mean every Care Home in the country...

Millimetre Wave Spectroscopy for Instant Viral Detection & Identification from Breath or Swab Sample

A new and novel method for high throughput screening at scale would be though using Millimetre Wave Spectroscopy. Millimetre waves have the potential to detect and identify in real time the unique biological signature of a virus such as SARS-CoV-2, either directly from a breath sample or indirectly from a swab sample. Such a solution has potential for fast-track and could deliver a near instant diagnosis at the point of testing.

PopMax testing whole country. https://popmaxcovid.com/Testing-the-population-for-Covid-19.pdf

**We are non profit no affiliation no personal gain**.   Using end point pcr allows mass pcr in the millions per day easily. Proven at Kbioscience LGC every day for last 15 years. 1.5 million pcr tests per day every day. We have 100% concordant data from Lighthouse rtPCR covid samples and reagents to prove this approach.  Also on Antibody test we accept a smudge YES/NO answer but on RNA rtPCR test we are told we clinically need a curve telling us how much then throw data away to give the...

Ramp up mass testing with use of optimal batch size

Only a better picture of who’s been infected and who’s immune will enable easing off lockdown and social distancing measures. We suggest the use of batch testing to quickly ramp up testing capacity. Batch testing is a proven method first used in WWII when tests were expensive. We can think of it as if testing light bulbs linked in series: if a single light bulk is broken the whole batch won’t light up. Highlights: Applying the same principle, researchers propose combining multiple...
