POC RT PCR device. Results in 30-40 minutes. One tube technology.

C: Further assessment

The device is CE marked.

Very compact 24x24x36cm. Comes with a little suitcase and weighs 9.5kg

The COVID kit is CE marked. Ideal use: nursing homes, remote communities, residential care, prisons- where shipping samples and getting an answer in 2-3 days is not good pandemic management. Can also be used in hospitals if need to test patient prior to admission e.g. for emergency surgery. Also for key personnel as required.

How quickly could this be deployed and what are the dependencies?

Available for shipping from china to customs depot. 15-20 days after firm order. Comes with a CE certified and fully validated COVID kit. Will also work with other tests from the same manufacturer for other diseases such as Mycoplasma, HBV, HIV etc. Respiratory disease kit developed but not yet CE certified- will allow rapid differential diagnosis in URTI/LRTI/pneumonia.

What is the likely production volume?

The manufacturer is increasing capacity but at least 200 are available for shipment. More than 20 have already been delivered to various countries in Europe. We would need to check the order book for delivery time.

What are the risks and barriers to using this at scale?

The limit is small scale as the machine can only do 1 sample at the time. A good set up is several POC machines as can be operated by a single staff member. Sample preparation and loading take about 5-10 minutes (the system does RNA extraction in one tube) and then cycles for up to 40 minutes- positives give answer quicker. during that time staff member can load another sample. Very competitively priced. Excluding staff costs and assuming depreciation over 12 months the cost per test including all consumables and reagents is about 50USD.

Who are you already partnering with on this?

We have proposed this device to PHE and by email. We have uploaded confidential information and CE certificate to gov.uk website. So far we have not had any enquiries. We are happy to provide further information as required.

Please see solution COVID kit under RNA extraction method. the POC comes with a validated and complete tests kit that contains 24 swabs and 24 collection tubes. Works on nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs. IFU also states alveolar lavage fluid, sputum and faeces but then need different containers. COVID kit is CE marked.

Hi Bev I am not sure what you mean. It is a POC point of care Real time PCR device- you use our one tube kit (from RNA challenge) which is in past bulletins, you shake the tube, for processing of RNA lysis and then you put it into this device and in 20-240 minutes you have result (shorter for positive, longer for negative). Perhaps I can email you direct with brochure and/or video if you would like? I tried to albs contact you via email for rapid device but maybe I have your email wrong?
