Viral RNA Lysis Buffer

Viral RNA Lysis Buffer is designed for:

• Nasopharyngeal swab samples

• Lysis of DTT pre-treated sputum samples which had been spun down to pellets before adding the RNA Lysis buffer

• Stabilization of nucleic acids with lysates

Compatible with commercially available RNA extraction kits comprising magnetic beads or spin columns, prior to RT-qPCR.

Have you validated this method, if so, how and what were the results of the validation?​

The buffer has been validated by Ireland’s Health Service Executive, HSE and is currently in use.

Direct drop-in-replacement buffer for extraction kits produced by leading manufacturers.

How quickly could this be deployed and what are the dependencies?​

Product is available in is manufactured in the UK

Available as 500ml and 10 Litre pack sizes

What is the likely production volume?​

Currently around 800 Litres per week, with further scale up volume of around 25%.

What are the risks and barriers to using this at scale?​

Possible further scale up if required.

Hi Bev,

Many thanks for contacting me again.

I can confirm that NHS England have ordered large volumes of Lysis Buffer that can be supplied to all NHS and PHE labs in England.
The stock has been bought centrally, is available now and will be delivered to sites at no charge to them.
