Reduce Swab Use by Using Saliva Testing

by Paul Mayberry | 8 months ago | in Greener testing

Most Covid tests use swabs. These are thrown away and harm the environment in the same way as cotton buds and plastic stirrers which have now been banned in the UK.

Suresign Saliva sampling Lateral Flow Tests are as accurate as swab sampling but remove the need for the swab and hence are greener.

The ability to use as self tests means less PPE is needed

They are MHRA approved

Additional benefits include:

Improved user tolerance - no uncomfortable nasopharyngeal or deep throat swabbing. This means there is a higher acceptance rates for tests and they can be expanded to include younger children.

Improved accuracy of sampling; sSwabs are so uncomfortable it is believed that swabbing usually isn't carried out properly during a self test leading to too many false negatives
